Over 50 Exercise completes me!

The starting point of the circle

Three entities encountered each other beneath a wise old Mother Oak tree.

The first entity, named Body, wanted to trim and tone her muscles. The second entity, named Mind, wanted to create a work of art with her cerebral exuberance. The third entity, named Spirit wanted to be happy and aware.

Mother Oak chuckled and asked, “Do you know that you three cannot exist separately?”

The three entities were confused for they were sure they were distinctly different entities. Wise old Oak asked Body, “How did you know how old you are?”

“Well,” Body answered with confidence. “I counted the number of birthdays I had and I know my age.”

“Dear Body that is how many times you have gone around the Sun riding on this planet. Planetary time does not have absolute correlation with your physiology. Planetary time is constant, but physiological aging varies from person to person and the rate of aging differs at different points of life.”

Mind asked. “What is physiological age?”

“Dear curious Mind, I knew you would ask that.” Old Mother Oak smiled and continued, “Any living body is composed of cells. There are billions of cells that make a human body. An average lifespan experiences about ten thousand trillion cell divisions. These cell divisions cause aging and that is physiological age. Cell division starts with the chromosomes. The ends of chromosomes are held together by telomeres. Telomeres are like the plastic caps at the end of a shoe lace. In every consecutive cell division, the size of a telomere decreases and a body gets older. After a certain period of time, the telomeres cannot hold the chromosomes together anymore and the body dies. Cell division is not correlated to the number of times we go around the sun.  A person may have gone around the sun fifty times, but physiological age may be different. “

Mind interjected and asked. “But, didn’t you mention that the cell division of a single body may vary from time to time. How does that happen?”

“Ah! A brilliant question indeed. That is what is expected of a Mind. You always end up with a question for your unquenchable curiosity. ” Mother Oak was definitely impressed. “Telomerase is an enzyme that replenishes a portion of telomeres with each round of cell division, and protects telomeres. Oxidative stress, which causes DNA damage, has been shown to hasten the shortening of telomeres in cell culture.”

Mind said, “Stress is the poison within.”

“No Mind, you are the main reason for stress. Body ages faster because of you. Spirit cringes and becomes sick for your urge to control.” Oak answered seriously.

“How do I do that?” Mind asked defensively. “As you said, I am just curious.”

“That is your good side. You also manifest ego, a fragile entity giving a false sense of existence among others. We want to talk to others, see others and feel their presence, but you create walls among people and that causes loneliness. It is the ego you create that remains at the center of the stress factor.”

“Mother Oak … I am sorry for the cause of so much stress. How can I fix that? How can I get better?” Mind asked.

“You have to work in harmony with Body and Spirit. You have to encourage body to exercise so her muscles awaken. And that will not reach the cellular level unless Spirit is allowed to be free and happy. When you let your walls down, Spirit will flow and Body will dare to touch and be touched.” Mother Oak replied.

“And … how do we make that happen?” Mind was genuinely curious.

“Just do it. Take on your journey. Meet your demons and bring back harmony among the three of you,” she replied wisely.

Serendipitously, two women and a man came walking slowly towards the oak with their evening tea. They were talking and animated.
Wind ruffled the leaves and pushed the entities closer to the humans. Body entered the woman named M, Mind slid into the woman named G and Spirit got stuck to the man, J.

Suddenly, M stood straight and declared that she would begin to exercise vigorously and bring back her shapely shape. G said she always wanted to write but did not dare to for she did not think she could. However, she would write her first story.

J had a mind that chattered all the time without a silent moment.  Finally he declared, “I will quiet my mind and share my meditative experiences.”

As these humans got busy talking about how to share their journey, the entities within them heard through the rustling of oak leaves, “Journey together, for you do not exist alone.”

That is how three humans, M,G and J started their adventure, the essence of this blog.
